Feeding Syrian Hamsters

Hamsters will need a normal hamster mix available from pet shops, personally i tend to make my own hamster mix which basically is just putting different things into 1 container to make a homemade mix so what i put in is: Supreme harry hamster food, Burgess supahamster hamster harvest, Trill (budgie seed), pets at home hamster nuggets, wilkinson mealworms (dried) and i thinks thats all. hamsters can eat alot of things but there is 1 thing that hamsters are allergic to: Onions! these may be an ingriedient in a dog biscuit for example and you may not have realised but please try to avoid onions as hamsters are allergic. i also like to use winalot dog biscuits available at places like asda etc. but these are bought for my dog anyway, hamsters also like to have some fresh foods maybe 1-2 times a week. what i usually feed is: cucumber, apple, carrot, celery, grapes and strawberries. but i dont give these all at once! hamsters can eat alot more than the foods listed above here is a link for more information: http://www.hamstercentral.com/wiki/Common_fresh_foods_for_your_hamster there you will find an extensive list of foods suitable for hamsters. also your hamsters will really enjoy treats available from pet shops and websites etc. i personally like to use: yoghurt drops, banana chips and some rotastak honey treat bars which hang on the bars of the cage.
